Moncton’s construction sector continues to play an important role in the city’s growth. Connecting employers with the skilled talent they need remains a shared priority for our city and region.

The City of Moncton, in partnership with the Moncton Northeast Construction Association, recently hosted a Construction Job Fair that brought together local employers, job seekers and workforce partners. Made possible through funding support from WorkingNB, the event marked the first sector-focused job fair delivered through this collaborative partnership.

Construction has seen significant employment growth in the Moncton CMA, adding approximately 3,900 workers since 2019, according to Statistics Canada’s Labour Force Survey. Looking ahead, 16,300 construction jobs are projected to need to be filled across New Brunswick by 2035, reflecting employment growth and replacement demand as workers retire. This reinforces the importance of creating direct connections between local employers, job seekers, and training opportunities to help meet the sector's demand for workers.

The job fair gave attendees an opportunity to explore careers in construction, meet employers face-to-face, and learn about available roles, training pathways and long-term opportunities in one of Greater Moncton’s most active employment sectors. As Carol Simpson, Executive Director of the Moncton Northeast Construction Association, shares in the event recap video:

Construction is one of the priority sectors in the Southeast Regional Workforce Development Strategy 2026–2031. As members of the Southeast Labour Market Partnership, the City of Moncton’s Economic Development team is working collaboratively with regional partners to advance practical workforce solutions that support employers, create pathways for job seekers and strengthen the construction sector and other priority sectors across Southeast New Brunswick. The strategy recognizes persistent skilled-trades shortages and the need for flexible, responsive training and workforce initiatives. 

Strong engagement throughout the event reflects the value of collaboration in supporting workforce development, business growth, and Moncton’s continued momentum.

Through partnerships with industry, government and community organizations, the City of Moncton continues to support initiatives that strengthen the local labour market and connect people with opportunity.

Following the success of the construction-focused event, planning is underway for the next sector-specific job fair, focused on healthcare careers. With support from WorkingNB, the event will connect job seekers with local employers and organizations offering opportunities across Greater Moncton’s healthcare sector—an important priority sector in New Brunswick.
